Artist Statement
Abbey Rosko paints from life, as well as from photographic imagery. She gathers her source material by taking candid pictures of her boyfriend, along with friends and standup comedians in addition to mining American cinema for obscure screenshots. Through painting, she distills these varying images into silent and moody scenes torn from their source. She is noted for rendering a strong sense of atmosphere, tension and sense of the uncanny.
