For 30 years I have lived in the middle of the woods on the original homestead of a house from the early 1700’s in rural Pennsylvania. Since the 1990’s, fairy tales, mythology and magical beings, as well as my many early travels to remote areas in Mexico have inspired my work.
My attraction to fairy tales is not the happily ever after endings – but the darker underside of the stories. The quiet parts where girls who don’t listen and “know their place” meet with terrible fates. Where women who live their lives with knowledge of the natural world and self-possession grow ugly and lonely, or worse, just disappear. Through art women are taking back our magic
